1. Share a few things about you and why you love photography!

Hello, I’m Julia! I reside in beautiful Wilmington, North Carolina – a short drive to many local beaches. I have been married for 7 wonderful years and have two sons who are my world.

I also have two fur babies, Riley and Scout. I work full time in logistics and keep a pretty busy schedule so photography has really become my saving grace. I love photography because it is a great way to escape and quiet the busy world around me.

2. What do you love to photograph and why?

The coast! I am a beach girl and I love to share how powerful and amazing our ocean and beaches are. My favorite form of photography has become ICM (intentional camera movement) because it allows me to express myself in a different way. I put a lot of time, and emotion into those.

3. Do you take photos with your smartphone or a camera?

I use a camera!

4. What kind of camera do you use?

I shoot with a Canon Rebel T8i DSLR camera. I was gifted a Canon Powershot for Christmas a few years ago and that is what made me fall in love with photography, so I felt comfortable using a Canon and stuck with it!

5. Share your favorite lens!

Honestly I mostly shoot with the lens my Canon Rebel T8 came with, the EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 lens.

6. What is the next lens you want to get and why?

My current focus is on what I have. Eventually, I would love to do more water shots and purchase underwater housing. One day when I am more comfortable with my camera and my photography, that is my long-term goal!

7. What inspires you to get out and shoot?

Photography is very therapeutic to me, so my mental health inspires me. I love zoning out and focusing on the little things around me. I really try and capture how I feel and what I see.

8. What is your learning process?

A lot of Youtube and Google is my friend. Trial and error. I am very new to my photography journey and have found a great circle of photography friends to bounce ideas and questions off.

9. Share your favorite moment on the field?

Almost every sunrise or sunset I capture becomes a special memory. I am grateful every time I get to go out and soak it all in and put my feet into the ocean. I am blessed to live so close to the beach and don’t take it for granted.

Anytime I can bring my sons along for a session is also quite special to me, it is an absolute gift to be able to wake up and see the sunrise.

10. What are you currently up to, and where people can find your work?

Right now I am focusing on shooting outside my comfort zone and getting better at that. I am working on my connections with other photographers and really loving getting to learn the process.

You can find me on Instagram, @the.saltypineapple.
